Battle of Aughrim Interpretative Centre (3 km) - Commemorating the forgotten day of Irish history, the Battle of Aughrim, fought between 45,000 soldiers on July 12th, 1691. Facilities include an audio visual show by John Kavanagh, tourist information service and selection of books, gifts and souvenirs.Avoca Village (8 km) - The small village of Avoca rose to international fame in the mid-1990s when it was chosen as the set for the BBC series 'Ballykissangel'. Fitzgerald's Irish Pub was the main filming location for the show and remains the focal point of the town.
Arklow (12 km) - This lively shopping town was one of the busiest ports in Ireland. Arklow has an attractive main street with ornate lighting and a charming riverside walk. St. Saviours' Church, impressively floodlit at night, dominates the high ground of the town.
Arklow Maritime Museum (14 km) - Maritime history of Arklow, illustrated by paintings (several by Reuben Chappell), many ship models, navigation and safety equipment shipwrights' tools and general nautical memorabilia. Display on the torpedoing of the Lusitania. Archives include photos.
Tourists information
By Car:- Travelling from Dublin, take the N11 towards the South-East.
- Bypass the town of Bray on the M11 and rejoin the N11 heading south towards Arklow.
- Drive into the town of Arklow.
- Do not take the bypass around town.
- Just south of Arklow, you will reach a roundabout at the top of the main street, where you should follow signs for Aughrim and Woodenbridge on the R747.
- The reception for the Holiday Village is located in Lawless's Hotel, which is in the centre of Aughrim beside the bridge.
